A person with knowledge of the investigation have identified Robert Joe Halderman as David Letterman’s extortionist. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because authorities have not released the suspect’s name.

A CBS News employee, accused of trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman, forcing the late-night host to admit before millions of viewers that he had sexual relationships with staff workers.
Robert Joe Halderman, producer of “48 Hours”, was part of a team nominated for an Emmy for outstanding continuing coverage of a news story in a news magazine in 2008. Robert Joe Halderman is the producer or segment producer for a number of CBS and Showtime documentaries.
The Manhattan district attorney has scheduled a news conference for late Friday morning to talk about the arrested employee.
