Apple introduced iTunes 10 with Ping, a new music-oriented social network. With it, users will be able to follow friends and see what music they have bought or enjoyed, what concerts they plan to attend and what music they have reviewed. They will also be able to follow bands and get updates on their new releases, concert tours and other events.
“Apple wants to create even tighter links with iTunes users and keep them a click away from buying a song,” said Mike McGuire, a vice president with Gartner. “Ping will give people more reasons to spend frequently and rapidly.”
“iTunes is the number one music community in the world, with over 160 million iTunes users in 23 countries, and now we’re adding social networking with Ping. With Ping you can follow your favorite artists and friends and join a worldwide conversation with music’s most passionate fans” Apple’s chief executive, Steven Jobs said.
Ping will also be accessible from the iPhone and iPod Touch with the iOS 4.1 update.
iTunes 10 also includes support for AirPlay, which will allow you to stream music, video, and pictures around the house to devices that support AirPlay wireless technology.
You can download iTunes 10 now from iTunes download page.
