The 7-inch, Android-based Samsung Galaxy Tab launches Thursday at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.
The Galaxy Tab is expected to compete with the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad with Internet browsing capabilities, video conference calls, music and video options, a 1024×600 TFT color screen with landscape-mode capabilities, and will be available with 16GB and 32GB of memory.
“This is not just another tablet,” said Samsung’s head of product portfolio Thomas Richter. “We call it a Smart Media device.”
The device, which supports e-books, runs on Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile phone application.
The price of the device has not been made available, but it will be launched in Europe in October.
