The second battle round on the July 28 episode of “The Voice of the Philippines” featured Lee Grane and Dan Billano, who are both from Team Bamboo.
They performed a rendition of U2’s “One.”
“The Voice of the Philippines” coach apl.de.ap picked Billano, while fellow judge Lea Salonga preferred Grane’s performance.
“I enjoyed the performance but to me… Dan stood out more for me,” he said.
“Maraming beses na nating narinig ‘yang kantang ‘yan and I think that’s like the sexiest rendition I’ve ever seen. And for me a lot of that sex appeal came from Lee Grane, so I have to with her,” Salonga said.
Guest adviser Joey Ayala, for his part, said: “For this moment, mas nag-enjoy ako sa boses ni Dan.”
“Pero gusto kong ipaalam kay Lee na ang laki ng espasyo para sa isang musician na tulad mo. Kasi karamihan ng babae na singer, nakikita ko nagpapa-cute. Bihira ako makarinig ng tunay na boses na galing sa bituka, at ‘yun ang narinig ko sa’yo. Kaya lang, sa contest na ito, sa kantang ito, lamang ang boses ni Dan.”
In the end, Bamboo picked Grane to remain in his team.
“Ang ganda ng progress na nangyari sa inyo. Dan, you sang well, man. Soulful. Kay Lee naman, I wanted to challenge you. Alam ko ‘yung kanta medyo wala sa comfort zone pero I want to see you push it at ipakita kung saan ka pupunta. What can you do?
“The thing with you, Lee, what I like is when you say a line, you say a phrase, there is emotion. Do you understand that? It’s a hard [decision].”
“I had to go with my gut feel, artistry. I have to pick Lee,” he added.
Grane, meanwhile, promised that she will do better in the next round of the competition.
