Philippine’s Mayon Volcano Eruption

Mayon volcano spewed red lava and emitted ash that fell on nearby towns on Tuesday. Around 15,000 people have fled the danger zone within 6 to 7 kilometers of Mayon, and the authorities strongly advised people not to re-enter the area.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that The lava was quietly flowing in some places but at times Mount Mayon was erupting like a fountain and recorded nine episodes of tremor, four of which accompanied lava fountains, and 75 lava collapse events as pressure builds up leading to lava flows and ash plumes, reiterating its warning that a hazardous eruption could happen any time.

Classes are suspended to allow the use of schools as temporary shelters for displaced people.
